U6 Academy

*Parental assistance is encouraged at this age. Children must be able to pay attention for 15 minutes at a time and to be able to follow directions well.

Players eligible for the U8 division based on their birth year, but who are new to soccer or who may need more time to develop their skills may benefit from a season (or an additional season) in the U6 Academy. If this interests you, please contact us.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR U6 PLAY

  • Generally, there are two practice sessions per week and each practice usually takes place 6:00 PM-7:00 PM. However, both practice days and timing are up to each team’s coach.
  • All matches will occur on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
  • The youngest players and those new to soccer will play 3 v 3.  As they grow older and develop their skills, they will progress to 4 v 4. There are no goalkeepers in this age group.
  • The main focus with this age group is without a doubt having fun. They will learn the basics of soccer, including simple rules like which way to move the ball to score. They’ll also develop important social skills like listening and following directions, all while making friends as they play.
  • This age group will not play in the rain or in extreme heat. Your coach will contact you if practice will be canceled.

WHAT YOUR ATHLETE WILL NEED

  • Soccer ball (size #3)
  • Shin guards are mandatory for all practices and matches. Players may not participate without them.
  • Soccer socks that cover the shin guards
  • Soccer cleats are preferred but athletic sneakers may be acceptable. Please ask a member of the club if you are interested in used cleats that have been donated by previous players.
  • Water bottle with adequate water for all practices and matches.
  • Athletic apparel is encouraged for the player’s comfort. Dressing in layers is encouraged if the weather may be unpredictable.
  • No jewelry may be worn during practices or matches (new piercings can be covered with a band-aid or tape)
  • A positive, kind, and respectful attitude

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP

  • Make sure your child’s name is on their ball and their water bottle.
  • Please volunteer your time and talents! Volunteers are essential for our club’s success, especially with this age group. Absolutely no knowledge of soccer is needed, and you are encouraged to view practice time as a chance to enjoy quality time with your child and the other players. The more you interact with them, the more they will learn and grow!
    • Parent Coaches will coach small groups of players with direction from the Academy Coach Coordinator. Remember, no prior knowledge of soccer is necessary!
    • Team Parents/Managers will help the coach keep the players organized and attentive, pass along club information to other parents, and help collect snack fees for the season. They may also assist during group pictures and take attendance, if necessary.
    • All parents are encouraged to be active during practice by helping out when possible and by working with every player to be the best they can be.
  • Communicate with your child’s coach when your child will be late or absent.
  • Always encourage your player and their teammates.
  • Never criticize any players.
  • The club has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, so please help to enforce this. If you have any concerns, please address them with your child’s coach or another member of the club.
