U10

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR U10 PLAY

  • Generally, there are two practice sessions per week and each practice usually takes place 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. However, both practice days and timing are up to each team’s coach.
  • Matches usually take place on Saturday. Some will take place at the Okolona Soccer Fields, but others will take place at other Louisville-area soccer clubs. Matches consist of two 25 minute halves with a halftime period.
  • Under 10 teams play 7 v 7 which includes the goalkeeper. Players will learn player positions, what each position’s “job” is on the field, and how to help their teammates. The major focus is on having fun, developing foot skills, coordination, agility, and making friends. The player is still learning the rules of the game. No prior soccer knowledge is needed, and we’ll start with the basics from day one.
  • At this age level, we introduce the “offside” rule, as well as direct and indirect kicks.

WHAT YOUR ATHLETE WILL NEED

  • Soccer ball (size #4)
  • Shin guards are mandatory for all practices and matches
  • Soccer socks that go OVER the shin guards
  • Soccer cleats
  • Water bottle and adequate water for all practices and matches
  • No jewelry may be worn during practices or matches (new piercings can be covered with a band-aid or tape)
  • A positive, kind, and respectful attitude

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP

  • Make sure your child’s name is on their ball and their water bottle.
  • Please be on time. It is very important that you have your athlete to practice and matches on time, as instructed by your child’s coach. (Plan on arriving at matches 30-60 minutes before kickoff.)
  • Communicate with your child’s coach when your child will be late or absent. Address any concerns with your child’s coach.
  • Always encourage your player and their teammates, and refrain from distracting them.
  • Never criticize any players.
  • Never criticize our referees, no matter how wrong they may be.
  • The club has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, so please help to enforce this. If you have any concerns, please address them with your child’s coach or another member of the club.
