U14

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR U14 PLAY

  • Generally, there are two practice sessions per week and each practice usually takes place 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. However, both practice days and timing are up to each team’s coach.
  • Matches usually take place on Saturday. Some will take place at the Okolona Soccer Fields, but many will also take place at clubs in and around the Louisville area. Matches consist of two 35 minute halves with a halftime period.
  • Under 14 teams play full-sided (11 v 11 including the goalkeeper). At this level, all FIFA rules apply and there is more focus on formal rules and standards. There may be more physical contact during gameplay. Players should be self-motivated to work without constant supervision and may even practice on their own to improve their skills. As expected, teamwork is imperative and often the team bond strengthens at this stage.
  • Players have developed a sense of pride and have matured considerably, but they may have a difficult time managing negative emotions (for example, if a referee makes a mistake, or if they have an issue with another player). It is imperative that they learn to manage their feelings in a positive way and that they behave respectfully.
  • Players are maturing and developing quickly at this age and your athlete may have improved concentration and understanding of gameplay tactics.

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP

  • Please be on time. It is very important that you have your athlete to practice and matches on time, as instructed by your child’s coach. (Plan on arriving at matches 30-60 minutes before kickoff.)
  • Communicate with your child’s coach when your child will be late or absent. Address any concerns with your child’s coach.
  • Always encourage your player and their teammates, and refrain from distracting them.
  • Never criticize any players.
  • Never criticize our referees, no matter how wrong they may be.
  • The club has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, so please help to enforce this. If you have any concerns, please address them with your child’s coach or another member of the club.
